OCR enforces several Federal civil rights laws that prohibit discrimination in programs or activities that receive Federal funds from the Department of Education. These laws prohibit discrimination on the basis of race, color, and national origin, sex, disability, and on the basis of age. OCR has a complaint process that can be utilized to resolve issues of discrimination.

Questions and Answers (Q&A) on U. S. Supreme Court Case Decision Endrew F. v. Douglas County School DistrictOn March 22, 2017 the U.S. Supreme Court (sometimes referred to as Court) issued a unanimous opinion in Endrew F. v. Douglas County School District Re-1, 137 S. Ct. 988. In that case, the Court interpreted the scope of the free appropriate public education (FAPE) requirements in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The Endrew F. decision is important because it informs our efforts to improve academic outcomes for children with disabilities. This Q&A helps explain the outcome of the case.

A Parent’s Guide to Evidence-based Practice and Autism.Follow this link to download this free parent’s guide published by the National Autism Center. It discusses the complexity of diagnostic evaluations for children on the autism spectrum, identifies and describes effective treatments, and outlines the importance of professional judgment and using data to guide treatment decisions.
